Jolly Muddy Giant

The Jolly Muddy Route showcases some of the most unique topography in southern Saskatchewan, including Castle Butte. Be sure to pack plenty of water, as there is no resupply point until Willow Bunch.

From Bengough Regional Park, head east to Highway 34, then travel south for 17 km to the signed turnoff for Castle Butte. Follow the road west for 15 km to a T-intersection, then head north. Be sure to stop at Castle Butte and climb to the top on foot for incredible views. Continue north, then northwest, for 13 km to another T-intersection at Highway 602. Head north on Highway 602 for 1.5 km, then turn west. Follow this road for 8.2 km to another T-intersection and head south for 800 m before turning west again. Ride west for 8.2 km to yet another T-intersection, then head north for 12 km past Bonneau Lake to Highway 705, where you'll travel west to Willow Bunch.

In Willow Bunch, you can resupply and rehydrate at Willow Bunch Fine Foods or the local Esso station. Better yet, stop in at the Jolly Giant Pub for a delicious burger!

If you're feeling up to it, I recommend the 5 km out-and-back ride to Jean Louis Legaré Regional Park. It's a beautiful little park in a wooded valley and well worth the visit. If you're riding this route as an overnighter, the campground is beautiful and even has some quiet, tent-only sites.

From Willow Bunch, follow Highway 705 east for 36 km and take the grid road heading north for 6.8 km, then head east back to Bengough.
