Description
Weyburn might not be the first place anyone would think of for good cycling. However, riding southeast of the city takes you through the Souris River and Roughbark Creek valleys, some badlands, and a few surprisingly good viewpoints. A heads up, this is oil country. Some of the roads have oilfield traffic, keep aware and move over for trucks. We have yet to encounter anyone being rude or aggressive, in fact it's been the opposite and most people give you plenty of room and slow down.
The route can start anywhere in Weyburn but it is recommend to start at Riverpark. Plenty of parking and a nice paved path will take you to Highway 39 where the adventure begins.
There is no resupply point on this route, so be sure to bring sufficient water and candy... we mean nutrition. If it has rained a lot recently there are some roads that are dirt that could be impassible. But routes around these roads are easy to find.
The highlight of the route is the out and back detour near the half way point. It is the best view around and won't disappoint!
In Weyburn there many food options. The Royal has surprisingly great sushi, and Pumpjacks has a great patio. Also, Weyburn has the only KFC buffet in the world...if that's your thing.
